TIP #2 – Get Geared Up! Purchase a Stand Up Paddle Board and Gear relevant for the type of stand up paddle boarding that you will be doing. For examples, Stand Up Paddle boards have become quite specialized over the years. Some SUP’s are best designed for river use, and made of light, inflatable materials. Others are designed with more rigid materials more suitable for ocean use. It is probably best to enlist the help of a professional when making purchase. If renting is an option, it’s always best to try before you buy. Don’t forget straps to strap your board to the roof of your vehicle.

That way, there is less of a chance of developing bad habits with your posture and stroke, and in turn minimize the possibility of injuries. TIP #4 – Location, location, location! Find areas to enjoy Stand Up Paddleboarding that suit your skill level. If you get overwhelmed by conditions that don’t match your abilities, it will dampen your spirits and possibly deter you from continuing to pursue the sport. When starting out, ideally choose warm lake, or very calm ocean inlets. Try and stay quite close to shore for the first few times, and only venture further if you feel comfortable.
