Here are some tips & tricks to get you off and running in the world’s fastest growing sport!! First off, Stand up Paddleboard in generally quite a simple sport to learn, especially if you are sticking to flat water.

TIP #1 – Join an Outdoor Club. It is best to enjoy the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding with Friends, so that you can watch out for each other

TIP #2 – Get Geared Up! Purchase a Stand Up Paddle Board and Gear relevant for the type of stand up paddle boarding that you will be doing. For examples, Stand Up Paddle boards have become quite specialized over the years. Some SUP’s are best designed for river use, and made of light, inflatable materials. Others are designed with more rigid materials more suitable for ocean use. It is probably best to enlist the help of a professional when making purchase. If renting is an option, it’s always best to try before you buy.  Don’t forget straps to strap your board to the roof of your vehicle.

TIP #3 – Take a lesson. Stand Up Paddleboard Lessons are popular. Why not enlist the help of a professional while you are still new at the sport. That way, there is less of a chance of developing bad habits with your posture and stroke, and in turn minimize the possibility of injuries. TIP #4 – Location, location, location!  Find areas to enjoy Stand Up Paddleboarding that suit your skill level. If you get overwhelmed by conditions that don’t match your abilities, it will dampen your spirits and possibly deter you from continuing to pursue the sport. When starting out, ideally choose warm lake, or very calm ocean inlets. Try and stay quite close to shore for the first few times, and only venture further if you feel comfortable.
